General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems (GD-OTS) is the prime contractor for the US Army Special Operations Command (SOCOM) Ground Mobility Vehicle 1.1 (GMV 1.1) program where TenCate Advanced Armor will function as the survivability partner. For TenCate Advanced Armor, the program is a milestone demonstrating capabilities to provide detailed design, development, integration, and manufacturing services to global tier-one defense companies.
TenCate advanced Armor's involvement in the GMV 1.1 program started in early 2014 with the opportunity to offer itself as a full survivability sub-system partner to GD-OTS for the GMV 1.1 program. TenCate Advanced Armor Design (TCAAD) would provide survivability analysis and designed a survivability solution that would facilitate the Flyer's nimble characteristics while at the same time providing the needed protection for the warfighter. The complete program is highly complex and has required TenCate Advanced Armor USA to make significant changes to its view on operations and its production facilities. From being a commodity supplier manufacturing high quantities of armor components, TenCate Advanced Armor USA has developed the capability to be a strategic partner for survivability solutions by manufacturing and integrating complex survivability systems composed of hundreds of parts.
Due to the complexity of the survivability system, TenCate Advanced Armor USA also developed an AS9100 compliant management system. This has allowed TenCate to provide a higher level of service to our customers. The development and implementation of an AS9100 compliant management system demonstrates the commitment of TenCate Advanced Armor USA to be a leading facility in the manufacture of survivability systems as more improvements are planned.
The GMV is a large multi-year program with numerous kits to be delivered in 2017 to meet the request from U.S. Army. More kits will be supplied through 2018 and onwards to meet the goal of providing survivability upgrades to a SOF-unique vehicle to fill a shortfall in mobility over rough terrain. The number of kits to be supplied means that TenCate Advanced Armor can optimize production to ensure that warfighters have the protection they require.

This system, which includes numerous dynamic, conditional and environmental elements as well as transparent armor and molded armor design features is both lightweight and high-performance in order to best meet exacting payload, mobility and performance demands of the SOCOM customer
Utilizing in-house resources, TCAAD was able to quickly model and evaluate the still evolving FLYER platform in the virtual world and designed a range of threat protection solutions to address customer requirements. Collaborative identification and down-selection of the best value proposition followed and in turn generated prototype systems to validate fit-up, execute ballistic testing and to perform drive-around trials. Customer approved refinements yielded a level III technical drawing package (TDP) which was immediately put into service to build production units.
TCAAD has the internal capability to evaluate a platform for ballistic and blast threat protection, to design effective and efficient armor solutions, to prototype and test those solutions and to deliver those solutions as manufacture-ready production drawings.
